Arrests and Charges
In a disturbing case out of Pennsylvania, two family members, 52-year-old Stacy and 35-year-old Ammanda, have been arrested and charged with multiple offenses following the discovery of severe abuse inflicted on Ammanda’s 12-year-old child. The charges include felony aggravated assault of a victim under 13, conspiracy, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, and tampering with evidence. Both women are currently detained at the county correctional facility on $125,000 cash bail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for next month.
Investigation and Hospitalization
The investigation began in September 2024 when the child was hospitalized after exhibiting seizure-like symptoms. During the hospital visit, Ammanda allegedly admitted to administering 50 mg of Benadryl and 60 mg of melatonin to her child before the symptoms appeared. Medical professionals noted significant bruising, scars, and abrasions consistent with restraint, along with signs of severe malnutrition. The child, weighing less than 50 lbs, was in the 0.01 percentile for a healthy child of her age.
Details of Abuse
The child reported being restrained to her bed by her hands, feet, chest, and legs, even while sleeping, describing the restraints as painful and expressing anger and frustration. She was forced to relieve herself in the bed due to prolonged restraint and revealed being compelled to eat cat food, a claim corroborated by a witness who overheard Ammanda admit to this during a phone conversation. Additionally, both defendants had installed a surveillance camera in the child’s room to monitor her and ensure she remained restrained.
Statements from Authorities
District Attorney Sanguedolce condemned the actions, stating, “The abuse of this child offends the sense of decency of every mother, grandmother, and otherwise respectable person imaginable.” He highlighted the profound betrayal of trust, as those responsible for the child’s care were the ones inflicting harm.
Call for Vigilance
This case has drawn widespread attention, underscoring the importance of vigilance and intervention in suspected child abuse cases. Pennsylvania authorities urge anyone with information related to this case or similar incidents to contact the District Attorney’s Office or local law enforcement agencies.
